Russian Hand Painted Trinket Box Black Lacquer Round Vintage USSR
About this piece
A charming Soviet-era trinket box with a domed lid, hand-painted in the traditional Russian lacquer style. The black lacquer ground is decorated with bold floral motifs: large red poppies with golden centres, smaller pink flowers and berries, and delicate blue-green foliage, all rendered in oils with careful brushwork. The composition draws the eye across the lid in a naturalistic yet decorative arrangement typical of 1970s–80s Soviet decorative arts.
The lid lifts to reveal a shallow interior, ideal for storing small treasures—jewellery, buttons, trinkets or keepsakes. The finish shows the gentle patina of age and use: light wear to the paint in places, and a subtle bloom to the lacquer that speaks to honest age rather than damage. The box remains perfectly functional and displays beautifully on a shelf or desk.
