Japanese Bhuddist Wooden Prayer Beads rosary
About this piece
A traditional mala or Buddhist prayer-counting strand, hand-strung with dark wood beads in a warm chestnut-brown. The 108 small beads (or full circuit) progress to two larger guru beads marking key points, then branch into five silk-wrapped tassel cords, each finished with a pale blue ceramic or glass bead. The construction is characteristic of meditation practice beads—the natural wood has developed a soft patina over time, and the silk tassels show gentle wear consistent with regular, respectful use.
Malás like this support focused intention during prayer, mantra repetition or meditative practice. The dual loops allow for wearing as a necklace or carrying coiled in the palm during sitting practice. The wood remains sound and well-preserved; the silk tassels are intact though naturally faded. We’d recommend storing it away from direct sunlight and handling it with the quiet reverence these beads deserve.
