About this piece
This is a Soviet-era pocket watch made by Zlatoust, a prestigious Russian manufacture founded in the Urals. The cream dial features Arabic numerals and a smaller subdial for seconds, characteristic of mid-twentieth-century Russian watchmaking. The case is chrome or silver-toned metal with a polished finish, and the watch hangs from a leather strap with a decorative metal stud and a beaded silver ring for suspension.
Dating to 1958, this piece carries the hallmarks of Soviet industrial design—clean, functional, built to last. The dial bears Cyrillic script identifying the maker and “Made in USSR” marking. The watch shows honest wear consistent with decades of use: the leather strap shows patina and age, the case has light surface marks, and the dial has developed a gentle patina. The mechanism is not currently running, though pocket watches of this era often respond well to a service by a qualified horologist. A charming survivor of Cold War craftsmanship, equally at home on a collector’s shelf or worn as an everyday piece.
