Set Of 10 Military Buttons, USSR , 1950
About this piece
A striking set of ten Soviet military buttons from the 1950s, combining gilt brass and silvered metal in a design typical of USSR armed forces dress uniforms. Each button features a prominent five-pointed star—the quintessential Soviet emblem—stamped in relief on a domed face, with a shank attachment at the rear for secure sewing onto tunics or greatcoats. The mixture of gilt and silvered finishes creates visual variety across the set, suggesting either official issue variation or natural patina acquired over decades.
These buttons embody the functional elegance of Soviet military manufacture: sturdy construction, clear iconography, and straightforward industrial design. The five-pointed star remains the most enduring symbol of the Soviet state, instantly recognisable across uniform, insignia and regalia. Collectors of Soviet memorabilia, military dress and Cold War ephemera prize such buttons for their historical weight and craftsmanship. A few buttons show light surface wear consistent with age and storage; the gilt finish on some has softened slightly, lending authenticity. Ideal for restoration projects, display, or collecting.
