About this piece
A charming collection of Soviet-era enamel pins, each bearing variations of May Day imagery and Cyrillic lettering. The designs feature the recurring word “МАЙ” (May), often paired with symbols of labour, harvest and celebration — wheat sheaves, factory smokestacks, roses and national emblems rendered in bright red, gold and blue enamel against cream or gilt metal backs.
These pins represent popular Soviet commemorative and propaganda merchandise, typically worn on lapels, school uniforms or work clothing during May Day celebrations and throughout the year. Each piece is small enough to cluster or wear individually. The enamelling shows excellent colour saturation and definition of the gold leaf details; wear is minimal and consistent with gentle, occasional use over decades. A wonderful snapshot of Soviet graphic design and the visual language of state holidays.
