About this piece

This is a striking example of Soviet-era Orthodox devotional jewellery — a finely cast sterling silver crucifix pendant, hallmarked 925, dating to the 1960s. The cross displays traditional Eastern Orthodox iconography: a corpus figure in high relief, flanked by abbreviated inscriptions in Cyrillic (visible on the cross-arms), and decorated vertical flourishes suggesting the inscribed placard and robes. The bail is simple and substantial, sized to accept a chain or cord.

Measuring approximately 3 cm in length including the bail, it sits as a bold yet wearable statement of faith. The piece shows its age gracefully — a warm silver patina has developed across the surface, softening the sharp relief and lending character consistent with genuine decades-old wear. No damage is evident. The Cyrillic text reads “Спаси и Сохрани” — “Save and Protect” — a traditional Russian blessing. We recommend cleaning only with a soft cloth; avoid abrasive polishes that would remove the authentic patina.
