925 Sterling Silver Pendant – Saint Sergius

925 Sterling Silver Pendant – Saint Sergius

About this piece

This is a finely detailed Orthodox devotional pendant depicting Saint Sergius of Radonezh, the revered 14th-century Russian monk and mystic. The obverse shows the saint in three-quarter profile, bearded and haloed, holding a jewelled cross; the reverse bears a cross within an oval frame, encircled by Cyrillic text reading “Преподобный Сергий” — “Venerable Sergius” — and what appears to be a date mark. The piece is cast and finished in 925 sterling silver, with crisp relief work and a subtle patina consistent with careful wear.

Such pendants are traditional in Orthodox Christianity, worn as personal devotions or talismans. The hallmark confirms the silver content; the construction and style suggest Soviet-era manufacture, when such religious medals were produced both officially and privately following the relaxation of restrictions. The loop is integral and sturdy. The surface shows minor wear appropriate to age and occasional wear, with no damage to the casting or loop. A straightforward, moving piece for the collector of Orthodox metalwork or Russian religious material.
