About this piece
This openwork silver band carries the Orthodox blessing Спаси и Сохрани — “Save and Protect” — rendered in Old Slavonic lettering and framed by flowing Art Nouveau scrollwork. The design creates real depth: polished highlights on the relief contrast with natural patina settled in the recesses, a signature of genuine age and wear. The wide band sits comfortably on the finger and catches light beautifully, making the lettering and ornament legible from all angles.
Sterling silver, hallmarked outside. The piece speaks to Russian or Eastern European craft tradition, where such blessing rings have long been worn as everyday devotional jewellery — practical, wearable prayers. The openwork construction is delicate work, demanding skill to keep the band structurally sound whilst cutting away so much metal. Condition is honest: the patina is part of its story. A gentle clean with warm soapy water will restore shine to the high points; avoid silver dip, which strips the character from old pieces.
