About this piece
This Soviet-era tapestry depicts one of Russia’s most iconic monuments: the Bronze Horseman statue of Peter the Great in St Petersburg, shown rearing dramatically above the city skyline. The weaving captures the monumental scale of the sculpture set within a sweeping landscape of palaces, waterways and parkland, rendered in warm ochres, teals and soft greens typical of mid-century textile design.
Hand-woven on linen, the piece shows the honest patina of decades of display: gentle fading to the dyes, a centre fold line, and minor surface wear consistent with careful use and age. The decorative whipped edge remains largely intact. At 155 cm wide and 65 cm tall, it makes a substantial wall statement. Displayed flat or hung from a pole, it brings Soviet heritage and classical artistry to any interior.
