Vintage 40’s ART NOUVEAU Gold Wash Brass Oak Leaf Amber Glass Necklace
About this piece
A striking piece that marries the ornate sensibilities of the Art Nouveau period with mid-twentieth-century craftsmanship. The pendant features a large faceted amber glass stone—deep golden-brown and beautifully cut to catch the light—nestled within an elaborate surround of cast brass adorned with foliate and floral motifs. Surrounding this centrepiece are smaller amber glass cabochons and faceted stones in warm tones, all arranged in a lush, naturalistic composition that echoes the oak leaf theme suggested by the necklace’s design.
The brass has been gold-washed, lending it a warm, lustrous finish that complements the amber glass perfectly. The chain is delicate and proportionate, with a small decorative connector piece linking it to the main pendant. The casting shows excellent detail throughout—flowers, leaves and scrollwork are crisp and three-dimensional. The piece shows honest wear consistent with age and use: the gold wash has mellowed in places, and the glass stones bear the soft patina of wear, though all remain secure and undamaged. A substantial and theatrical necklace, suited to anyone drawn to vintage glamour with a botanical edge.
