Necklace with a polished Orthoceras fossil cabochon and beads.
About this piece
This striking necklace centres on a polished Orthoceras fossil cabochon — an ancient cephalopod from the Palaeozoic era, its pale stone marked with the characteristic chambered spiral pattern. The oval stone is set in a beaded surround of black seed beads and metallic spacer beads, creating a frame that draws the eye inward.
The strand itself is composed of small black seed beads interspersed with larger metallic spheres and faceted rondelles, strung to sit comfortably at a relaxed length. The beadwork shows honest wear to the finishes of some metal elements, consistent with regular wear, but the fossil cabochon remains in excellent condition — lustrous and unmarred. Care is straightforward: keep it away from prolonged moisture and store flat or loosely coiled to avoid stress on the beading.
