About this piece
A substantial strand of natural agate, hand-strung in the USSR. The necklace comprises carefully polished chips and tumbled chunks of agate, each with the characteristic soft striations and translucent quality of the stone. Warm cream, pale grey and buff tones run throughout, with occasional deeper grey or tan patches creating gentle variation across the 46 grams of stone.
The stones are threaded on cord and finished with a simple metal clasp — functional and unobtrusive. The necklace sits comfortably as a substantial neck piece, substantial enough to make a quiet statement without demanding attention. Wear it layered over a linen shirt or as a grounding piece with neutral palettes. The agate shows the expected minor surface wear of vintage use: a few small marks and gentle patina that speak to its age and handling, yet the stones retain their lustre and polish.
A lovely example of practical Soviet-era jewellery, valuing natural material and honest craftsmanship over decoration.
