A charming vintage Soviet ring in 875 silver. A single raspberry-red ruby sits cupped in a little four-petal flower, with a finely veined leaf curling beside it. The beaded edge along the stem and leaf catches the light beautifully, and the asymmetric design gives it a soft Art Nouveau feel.
The stone is ruby, as used in Soviet jewellery of the period. It has a rich, saturated colour and lively facets. Ruby has long been called the stone of the heart. It is said to bring courage, passion and vitality, and to protect the wearer while keeping their spirit warm and bright.
The ring is hallmarked 875 with the Soviet assay mark inside the band. It is in good vintage condition, with a gentle natural patina that adds to its character and light wear in keeping with its age.
