Vintage Sterling Silver Marcasite
Drop Post Earrings
About this piece
These teardrop earrings are crafted from sterling silver with an intricate overlay of marcasite — the pyrite mineral faceted into tiny geometric cabochons that catch the light across their filigree surfaces. The design is classic in its ornamentation: scrolling foliate patterns frame the marcasite stones in an open tracery, creating depth and movement. Each earring suspends from a substantial looped post bail, typical of earrings from the mid-twentieth century.
The posts are secure and functional. The surface shows the characteristic soft patina of well-worn silver, with gentle darkening in the recessed filigree work that enhances the design. Marcasite jewellery of this quality remains a favourite among collectors for its distinctive sparkle and enduring elegance. We recommend occasional gentle cleaning with a soft cloth to maintain the shine, and storage away from moisture to preserve the silver and stone settings.
