About this piece
This is a genuine artefact of Imperial Russian musical publishing: Moniusz Oginski’s beloved polonaise in A minor, arranged for piano, issued by the Moscow house of S. Ya. Yambor around 1907–1914. The cover bears a portrait of the renowned singer V. Kavetskaya and is numbered 38 in a popular series that ranged across European salon music—Lehár, Bizet, Verdi, Offenbach and others. The original price of 10 kopecks is printed below. The text appears in pre-1918 Russian orthography (Cyrillic), with French subtitles reflecting the cosmopolitan taste of the era.
The score is arranged for piano and trio (indicating a chamber or orchestral reduction). Four pages, showing their age with foxing, edge wear, and minor tears to cover and interior leaf. Previous owners have left pencil fingering marks and a small ink notation. The back cover lists all forty titles in the series, a window into the repertoire performed in Tsarist drawing rooms. Suitable for collectors of Russian musical ephemera, sheet music history, or for framing as a period piece of the Belle Époque.
