Incredible vintage silver 800 butterfly brooch
About this piece
A delicate butterfly brooch of exceptional filigree work, rendered in silver with fine openwork detailing across all four wings. The body is articulated and rises gently above the wing plane, giving the piece dimensional life. The underside bears a hallmark reading “800”, confirming silver content of 80% — a standard of quality associated with European jewellers working in the early to mid-twentieth century.
The craftsmanship is intricate: each wing section showcases tight geometric patterning created through granulation and pierced work, techniques that demand considerable skill. The brooch remains in excellent condition, with light surface patina befitting its age. It fastens via a pin and horizontal bar catch on the reverse. A charming piece to wear pinned to lapel or collar, or to collect as an example of Art Deco metalwork.
