✦ Vintage 1954 Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Medallion ✦
This is a genuine piece of British swimming and lifesaving history. It is the Royal Life Saving Society bronze medallion, engraved “Awarded to J. Pettifer, July 1954”. The front shows the Society’s emblem of crossed oar and boat hook over a lifebuoy, encircled by the Latin motto Quemcunque miserum videris hominem scias. The reverse reads “Royal Life Saving Society – Established 1891”, with the recipient’s name and date picked out in gilt.
It comes in its original yellow card box, hand-signed “J. Pettifer” on the lid and still holding its period tissue wrapping. Named and boxed examples like this are especially sought after by collectors.
