Soviet badges
About this piece
A collection of Soviet-era sports badges, each a small square or near-square form in pewter-coloured metal, typically 25–30 mm across. Each carries Cyrillic text and relief imagery: athletes in dynamic poses — runners, jumpers, weightlifters — alongside ideogrammatic symbols. Many feature enamel inlays: deep blue shields (marked ‘D’), red accents, and gold highlights on some examples, creating sharp focal points against the patinated metal ground.
These are membership or achievement pins from Soviet sports organisations and athletic societies, worn on the chest or lapel to signal participation or qualification in sanctioned competitions. The varied designs suggest they span different sports disciplines and possibly different decades within the Soviet era. The patina and enamel wear visible across the group is consistent with authentic vintage issue and regular wear. Each has a simple pinback or loop attachment. Collectors of Soviet memorabilia, Cold War ephemera and sports history prize these for their graphic boldness and documentary value.
