Vintage brooch with natural malachite.
About this piece
This is a carved malachite brooch of considerable charm and tactile appeal. The stone itself is a substantial piece of natural malachite, worked into a smooth, organic shape and polished to reveal the mineral’s characteristic banded green patterns. Malachite’s swirling striations are on full display here, ranging from deep forest green to lighter jade tones. The brooch has been set with a simple pin fastening, visible from the reverse.
Malachite was beloved by jewellers throughout the 19th and 20th centuries for its beauty and workability; this piece bears the hallmarks of mid-century taste. The stone shows minor surface wear consistent with age and use, yet retains excellent polish and lustre. It is suitable for pinning to a jacket, coat, or bag. To care for it, avoid prolonged exposure to heat, perfume and harsh chemicals; a gentle wipe with a soft, dry cloth will keep it gleaming.
