About this piece
A compact silver talisman pendant from the Soviet era, crafted in solid 925 sterling silver and hallmarked on the bail. The openwork disc features a distinctive folk-inspired design: a shield shape centred within a circular frame, flanked by two upturned horn or crescent motifs — a composition echoing Scythian and Baltic pagan traditions. The textured, hammered finish throughout gives it an intentionally archaic character, characteristic of Soviet-era ethnic revival jewellery.
At just 1.2 cm in diameter and weighing around 2 grams, it is delicate and portable — ideal as a charm on a fine chain or worn within a locket. The piece shows natural patina and light age marks consistent with genuine vintage wear, deepening its authenticity. Soviet silversmiths excelled at this type of symbolic miniature, drawing on folk heritage to create affordable talismans and amulets for everyday wear. A lovely example of mid-to-late 20th-century USSR craftsmanship.
