About this piece
This charming Soviet brooch-pendant combines two practical functions in one compact piece. The design features a stylised red enamel rose set within a textured silver-tone mesh flower frame, a characteristic hallmark of 1960s Soviet costume jewellery. The reverse shows fine cross-hatching, typical of stamped metalwork from this period. A simple looped bail allows it to be worn as a pendant on a chain or fastened as a brooch via a pin mechanism on the back.
The enamel work shows minor wear consistent with age; the rose retains its deep crimson lustre and the metalwork has developed a gentle patina. Soviet craftspeople excelled at producing decorative pieces in silver-tone metal and enamel, and this example exemplifies their attention to detail in both the dimensional petals of the rose and the precise mesh patterning of the surround. A versatile piece, equally at home pinned to a collar or worn as a pendant.
