A charming vintage pairing: a sculpted roebuck brooch presented in a handsome wooden trinket box with brass inlay.
The brooch is finely cast in a silver tone with real depth and character. The young buck stands alert on a textured woodland base, head turned and antlers raised, with lovely detail in the face, ears and rugged ground beneath. It is in the style of the traditional Alpine and Bavarian hunting brooches worn on Trachten jackets and hats, and it looks just as good on a wool coat, scarf or bag. It is secured with a sturdy pin and safety catch. No hallmark is visible.
The box is made of richly grained dark wood, with a lid inlaid with bold, graduated brass stripes in a striking geometric, Art Deco–inspired design. It has brass-clad sides and a hinged lid, and it is a beautiful piece to keep on a dressing table or desk for rings, cufflinks or small treasures.
Both are in good vintage condition with age-related wear, including light scratches to the brass, a softly aged patina and small marks to the wood.
